Jordan Grand Prix Formula One car, 1997 season

Powered by a 3.0-liter V10 engine producing about 680 hp (500 kW) at around 15,500 rpm; up to 750 hp (560 kW) could be briefly deployed during qualifying. Team founder Eddie Jordan relied on young drivers Giancarlo Fisichella and Ralf Schumacher, who at the time had very limited Formula One experience. The updated Jordan 197 featured improved aerodynamics and several new components, while Peugeot supplied a more powerful generation of engines. After a difficult start, the team regularly finished in the points behind Ferrari, McLaren, Williams, and Benetton. Fisichella achieved two podium finishes and Schumacher one. Jordan ended the season with 33 points, finishing fifth in the Constructors’ Championship — the most successful season in the team’s history up to that point.
