The striking design was created by American designer Jack R. Miel. Characteristic features include the large glass dome, illuminated elements and shapes reminiscent of radar and space technology.
The machines offered 200 selectable titles on 45-rpm records, making them among the most advanced jukeboxes of their time.
The Continental series quickly became one of the most famous and popular jukebox designs of the 1960s. Its futuristic appearance perfectly matched an era inspired by technological progress and the first human space flights, such as Yuri Gagarin’s mission in 1961.
Today the AMI Continental 1 and Continental 2 are regarded as iconic jukebox designs of the Space Age era.
