In the early 1930s the company decided to enter the market for automatic coin-operated music machines.
This became possible through the “Simplex” mechanism invented by Russell I. Wilcox, for which Wurlitzer acquired the production rights.
After a test series called “Debutante”, the first regular production model appeared in 1934: the Wurlitzer P10.
With this machine the successful era of Wurlitzer jukeboxes truly began.
In the decades that followed, Wurlitzer became the most famous jukebox manufacturer in the world.
In many German-speaking countries, jukeboxes are still commonly referred to simply as a “Wurlitzer.”
