This extraordinary jukebox was produced for the U.S. Navy Department –
Bureau of Ships and was designed for operation under extreme conditions.
It was used on U.S. Navy warships, and reportedly even in submarines, providing entertainment far from home.
The mechanism comes from Wurlitzer, most likely from the model 2404 from 1960, adapted for military use.
Only a very small number were ever built – this is the only known surviving example today.
A truly unique piece of technological history.
The jukebox is now on display at the Terra Technica Museum, where it represents one of the collection’s standout exhibits.
